If you don't personally know someone who has undergone a plastic surgery procedure, you most likely have seen plenty of examples on the television and in life. There are many breast augmentations, face lifts, and tummy tucks performed every year.
But while many plastic surgery procedures are becoming more mainstream and common sight, there are some new trends that may seem a bit out of the ordinary, sometimes even to plastic surgeons. Here are some uncommon plastic surgery procedures that are slowly gaining popularity.
1. Toe Shortening and Foot Pad Plumping
Ashamed of your feet? Apparently, so are many women. So much so that they have turned to plastic surgeons to help beautify everything from heel to toe. Toe shortening involves removing small pieces of bone from overly long toes in order to improve the foot's appearance.
For women who find heels unbearable, foot pad plumping helps add an extra cushion to the heel or ball of the foot in order to ease pain associated with those fancy shoes. An injectable, such as one used to plump wrinkles, is used to give the foot extra padding.
There are also complete "foot lifts" for women who suffer from hammer toes, cramped pinky toes, and other common aesthetic as well as functional complaints. You will never have to avoid flip-flops again.
2. Lip Implants
Most people are familiar with facial fillers such as collagen that plump up the lips, making them look fuller and more voluptuous; however, these fillers fade over time and the area must be treated again. A more permanent but lesser known plastic surgery procedure are lip implants. Gore-Tex is the most popular option for long-term lip plumping and will not shrink or change shape during its lifetime.
3. Hand Rejuvenation
They say a woman's hands will always reveal her true age. Unless you plan on wearing gloves your entire life, the tops of your hands are going to be a dead giveaway for your years. That is unless you undergo the hand rejuvenation plastic surgery. A plastic surgeon uses injectable fillers such as the ones used to plump up wrinkles in order to diminish the appearance of veins and plump up the thin, hollow skin.
4. Sweat Prevention
Many people suffer from an embarrassing and emotionally distressing condition that causes them to sweat more than the average person. The severity of the sweating varies by person, and some will only have problems with one area of their body such as excessively sweaty hands or feet.
Botox is used to successfully treat such a condition. Plastic surgeons inject Botox into the sweat glands, blocking them from excreting perspiration. The results will last up to six months and continued treatments may see an overall reduction in the amount of sweat produced.
While these plastic surgery procedures may not be for everyone, they do help alleviate emotional distress caused by the conditions as well as improve confidence and self-esteem. If you're curious about any of these offbeat procedures, consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon.
